  2. Dr. Jose P. Rizal is one of the greatest Filipinos who ever lived. At a time when the Philippine Islands was under the oppressive rule of the Spaniards, his brilliance and dedication to his country served as inspiration for his fellow filipino men to fight for their homeland's independence.
He was an academician, a linguist, historian, writer, a scientist, and of course, a doctor. Rizal did have thoughts of eventual independence, but never through violent means. He sacrificed his life for the freedom of our country and became a good example of true nationalism. That’s the reason why he is the greatest Filipino hero ever lived.

  3. For me, Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero because he is the real one who led the Philippine Independence by fighting for reforms through writings instead of a bloody revolution. To the extent of most Filipino people’s knowledge, the Reform Movement by him was a failure but for me it has became an indirect way to our country’s freedom. His novels and writings opened the eyes of the Filipino people and brought up a new idea called Filipinism. He didn’t use aggression because it will only invoke a revolution through bloody means. He fought passively and proved that “The pen is mightier than the sword”. He was the greatest at his time and was titled “Pride of the Malay Race” and the “Greatest Man of the Brown Race" which I have read in Wikipedia. He used his intelligence in seeking what he is fighting for and incredibly, he had accomplished so much in the very short 34 years that he lived. Some facts also may have been reason why he was the greatest of all the heroes we have. First, at the early age of three to five, he already knows how to read and write. While his talent of art was recognized even though he was never given any formal training. Second, he is a polygot. It’s because not only he spoke Italian but also twenty-one other languages. In short, he was almost perfect. Jose Rizal contributed much in our country in terms of wisdom and knowledge. Maybe, that happened because he had a vision in his mind and a mission in his heart. Such mission and vision became strong that when executed as an action bears a lot.

  5. Rizal was a brilliant writer and poet. He was able to speak several languages and highly skilled. He was able to use his intelligence to set forth his beliefs and opinions clearly.

For me, Rizal is our National Hero because He is Dying for our country. Even though he carried no arms, He was very brave end gorgeous. He used his pen to produce some novels and poems that touch the Filipino souls… not even the Filipino but I think some countries all over the world. Without hurting anyone physically, He made Filipinos realize the persecution they were going through Spaniards. In his poems, he also made it clear how important it was to love our country.

On my own opinion, Dr. Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero because he believed that our freedom can be achieved or can be won without using force, and declaring war against our colonists. He also believed that the children are our hope, that the children will be the one who will seek and fight for our freedom like the way he did. He is great because he never used force in fighting the colonists, he used his knowledge and wisdom to fight them and let them know his feelings. Dr. Jose Rizal was never afraid to expose the wrong deeds of the colonists, even when he was already captured and was imprisoned; he never stopped fighting for our freedom and proving that we can do something to gain the respect we deserve. He was so brave; he never expected anything in return of what he was doing for us, Filipinos. He just did what he knows was right. He is great in so many ways; I can say that he loves us, Filipinos as much as he loved his mother. He even faced his death without fear or hesitation of what he did. He accepted his fate with arms wide open, without any regret, just to set an example and to show us that we should learn and fight for what we believe. He used this chance to prove that we can achieve our goals through perseverance and use our wisdom and knowledge as our foundation.

Lagi din nating isipin na HIS PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE BOLO OF BONIFACIO!!

Dr. Jose P. Rizal is a hero, yes, and the greatest of them all. Why? In my own opinion, he became a hero because he’s a versatile individual both through the mind and manipulative areas, not to mention his inherit character and the love to people, especially to the poor. His sensitivity to the needs of others was overwhelming as evidenced by the destitute people he had helped by being a doctor, teacher, artist farmer and like.He fought Spaniards through book, pen and his knowledge. He didn't fight through armors and in violence. He pursue brawling even though he was sent to jail. With the articles he had written,of which the topics were most about slavery and abusive acts of Spaniards to the unfaithful Filipinos,he has touched lives,he was able to awakened the mind of the people. Even if the Filipinos were scared to fight greedy Spaniards,Rizal helped us through his faith that we can conquer the Spaniards. He influenced most of our revolutionary leaders through his writings and articles. Most people believed that Rizal’s greatest legacy is his love for his country as embodied in his writings and the actions that he took.

He accomplished so much in such a short period of time because he had a vision in his mind and a mission in his heart. The intensity of such mission and vision translated into action that enabled him not to waste time in any trivial matters but rather devote all of his time to the accomplishment of the mission and vision that he believed was given to him.He did a very good job for us considering the fact that he had set us all free from slavery and better education. It was sad to know that many Filipinos didn't appreciate all the hard works that Rizal gave to our beloved land. Many information were mistaken not knowing that he risked his life for us to live freely without expecting who will going to fight after he was gone.

I salute Rizal for he had faced death with boldness. He had proven the saying goes, " A PEN iS MiGHTiER THAN THE SWORD. " May Rizal lived in our hearts forever as we lived our treasured mother lnad with freedom.

first of all, Dr.Jose Rizal known as our philippine national hero because of his braveness.. Rizal graduated at ateneo de manila university, university of santo tomas, and lastly he study at University of central university In spain.. he can speak in any language.. :)
Rizal is an intelligent person because of his deeds in his life.
For me ,I considered Rizal as our greatest national hero because he uses his mind and he thinks very well,, he fight for country , because we need freedom not also for freedom he also want reforms.. and our country to be civilized..
.. VIOLENCE is not the way to be free .. he did not use violence because it's a crime.. and for him ,, they can be easily get without using it .. according to WHY GUIDES in Google.. "The power of the pen could be stronger than sword"..
--although there are some doubts of his deeds ,because he uses a pen not a sword...
but in the fact he was a Brave and Intelligent person.. Because he preferred to die because of us and to be civilized our country..
--the idea of freedom was forever in the minds of people. all the ideals that he fought to us is still alive..

i am pleasured because Dr. Jose Rizal is our greatest filipino hero ..

-- Isipin natin ang mga ginawa ni RIZAL.. KUNG HINDI DAHIL SA KANYA HINDI NATIN MASASABI ANG ATING MGA HINAING LABAN SA MGA KASTILA..

  10. Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero. He was a patriot and the most prominent advocate for reform during the Spanish Era. Rizal was a brilliant writer. He was also a polygot meaning he can speak several language. Unlike Bonifacio,Rizal uses his pen as a weapon against the Spanish Colonizers. Through his works, Rizal was able to revolutionize the way that the Filipino thought. He was able to prove that the pen is mightier than the sword. He showed that without killing , one can fight oppression. Rizal was brave and courageous. He used his pen to expose the hypocrisy of the Spanish authorities. He was not afraid on what might happen if the Spaniards see his works. In the end, his work caused him his life. Even if he his dead, his idea of freedom will be forever in the minds of the Filipino heroes.

He is one of our national hero that gives every people most specially the youth the manner and concept of LOVE, not just by the love with our country. He is very proud for being a true-blooded Filipino. Some coined him as the greatest Filipino hero because of his excellence not only in academics but also his dedication to provide the best things deserve by an individual. I idolized him because of his passion and fortitude. He is really a great patriot and a good model as well. Those Spanish conqueror that tried to invade our mother land was stopped by the presence of Jose Rizal. A man full of love, care and dedication with great responsibility described Him.

I always believe in the philosophy, teaching and ideologies of Dr. Jose Rizal, a remarkable hero of the Philippines. He was known for his love for his family, for being a nationalist, and for advocating great reforms in the country during Spanish period. Rizal was able to show his principles in his novels without even being blinded by his ideas of reforms. His brilliance and dedication to his country served as inspiration for every Filipino and especially to those people at his time to fight for their homeland’s independence. In addition to, he was a genius and far ahead of his time but it becomes so obvious that he accomplish more in half the time. He was not just the greatest man of the brown race. He was a great man of all races.
Rizal as a child , we can say that he loves his mother. As a proof, when his mother was going blind Rizal went to a medicine school and take a course for him to be able to operate his mother’s eyes. As a result, the operation was successful and was able to make his mother see again.
Through his works, he wakes the sleeping spirits of Filipinos that physical fighting is the only way to fight for our independence. He showed that without killing another man we can win. He also demonstrated how the power of the pen could be stronger than the sword. He also showed how someone could bring about change without resorting to violence instead of using one’s knowledge.
One of the many reasons why Jose Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines is because he looked far beyond overthrowing the Spaniards. He was more interested in the long situation of the country after over throwing Spaniards in our country. This only shows that Rizal is controlled enough to balance his eagerness to be free for Spaniards and his visuals after being free from the colonizers.
The most important thing that Rizal contributed to every Filipino is his story. A story that tells us that every one of us must be a good man or a good citizen so that we can help our country to progress.

Rizal is the National Hero of the Philippines. ose Rizal became the Philippine national hero because he fought for freedom in a silent but powerful way. He expressed his love for the Philippines through his novels, essays and articles rather than through the use of force or aggression.

He was a very amazing person at his time. He was humble, fighting for reforms through his writings instead of through a revolution. He used his intelligence, talents and skills in a more peaceful way rather than the aggressive way.

Rizal organized La Liga Filipina, a secret organization on July 3 1892. It aimed to change the way the government was run in a peaceful way. In July 7, 1892, less than a week after the La Liga was organized, Captain General Despujol ordered Rizal's exile to Dapitan, on suspicion of his involvement in rebellion. In Dapitan, he opened a school with fourteen pupils.

On December 29, 1896 he wrote the Last Farewell and was executed in Bagumbayan the next day. He accepted his death and did not even panic when he was exiled. For me he is the bravest of all heros and the greatest. His greatest works are El Felibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere. He is admired by many even Bonifacio is admired by his doings. He is the number one example of a nationalistic citizen. He does things for our country.

  15. Dr. Jose P. Rizal was indeed the called the "chosen one" gifted with many unique abilities, skills and outstanding talents. He was a peaceful man and used the power of his pen to express himself. *His intelligence, courage, and belief in peaceful change inspired millions of people around the globe. His uniqueness contributed to his great works in developing and helping the freedom of the Filipinos. He also used his outstanding intelligence and patriotic character; so he may be able to free his fellowmen from the wickedness of the dreadful Spanish government.
If not because of Jose Rizal's books and writings, maybe our country wouldn’t be free from the Spaniards and there wouldn't be an eye-opener for youths of different generation about the colonization of the Spaniards to the Philippines.
He actually has been my inspiration, truly one of the most admirable and remarkable hero of the Philippines and I do believe of his saying; “Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng ating bayan” which means that "The youth are the hope of our motherland". His love for our country; the Philippines, and his observations of the Spanish rule made him to speak out about injustice; which a great hero and leader would do, even though it would eventually lead to his imprisonment and execution. He also mastered 22 languages. He started the change for revolution, and although not the advocate, he still paid the ultimate price; death.

  17. In late 19th Century, Rizal became the voice of a people long oppressed by centuries-old Spanish rule. As an educated man, he was exposed to some of the abuses by Spanish friars and government officials. As a founder and member of the La Liga Filipina, he originally pushed for reforms of Spanish colonial rule.

He wrote Noli Me Tangere and El Felibusterismo. Although fictional, the novels described the abuses committed by Spanish officials against the locals. Alarmed over the threat posed by the two novels, angry Spanish officials pushed for Rizal's arrest and exile in Dapitan.

While exiled in Dapitan, Rizal devoted himself to improving the conditions of people in Dapitan.

During this time, the concept of "Filipino" was taking shape among the inhabitants of the islands. Before, society was divided among Spanish citizens and indios (locals). Some began to form nationalistic ideas. Rizal's two novels inspired locals to call not for Spanish government reforms but for independence from Spain.

This alarmed the Spanish colonial government. In 1896, Rizal was executed in Bagumbayan (Rizal Park) on charges of sedition and treason. The execution did not prevent the calls for independence to stop. The Katipunan led a full scale revolutionary war against the Spanish colonial government.

Although Rizal did not push for independence, his writings and execution inspired many to revolt against Spain. This is the primary reason Jose Rizal is a national hero. He instilled the sense of nationalism among citizens oppressed by centuries-old Spanish rule.

Rizal did not advocate for armed struggle. He is the epitome of the saying "The pen is mightier than the sword." He was also a learned man who pushed for the emancipation of the people through education. He advocated for equal rights be accorded to locals and not just limited to Spanish colonials. And finally, he was a martyr that stood for his beliefs.

  18. Dr. Jose P. Rizal (1861-1896) is one of the greatest Filipinos who ever lived. At a time when the Philippine Islands was under the oppressive rule of the Spaniards, his brilliance and dedication to his country served as inspiration for the discontent masses to fight for their homeland's independence.

Dr. Rizal did have thoughts of eventual independence, but never through violent means. It is ironic, therefore, that the revolution that started in his lifetime was ascribed by the Spaniards to him, though he never had a hand in it. For me that's why Rizal is our greatest national hero.

  19. Rizal was the greatest hero simply because all of his works, actions, and what he lived for was for the Filipino. Some said that Rizal didn't fit to be a national hero because he never actually fought in pitch battle during the revolution. The problem with us today is that our mind is set to the idea that being a national hero or a hero is through bloody battle. Jose Rizal didn't agreed to the idea of a revolution. He didn't want to waste the precious life of the Filipinos. That's why he became our national hero. He had a sense of nationalism. Through his works, he opened the eye of the Filipino to reality. Being a hero does not matter whether you died in a battlefield or not. Being a hero means dying for what you believed is true. Jose Rizal died for what he believed. He died for the Filipinos.

  20. I believe that the reason why Dr. Jose Rizal is considered as the greatest Filipino Hero is because of what he has achieved in his life and what he has done to his beloved country.
Rizal’s early childhood already showed signs that he had a long way to go in his life. He was fund of painting. In school, Rizal was a very bright student. He received “excellent” marks in almost all his subjects. He even topped his class in every school he goes at.
Growing up, Rizal was able to travel and study to different countries around the world and by that he was able to master different languages and speak them fluently. His brilliancy did not stop there, he also studied in different fields, and he was known to be a good novelist, painter, psychologist, ophthalmologist, doctor, nationalist, scientist and many more.
Fortunately, during his existence, our country was being colonized by the Spaniards. He had seen the treatment of the Spaniards to the Filipinos and eventually got fed up. He wanted to look for a way to fight back. Being a novelist, he wrote novels showing the treatment of the Spaniards to the Filipinos. He wanted to awaken all the Filipinos and wanted us to fight for our independence. This however has caused him his life after being caught and killed by the Spaniards. But his novels marked the beginning of our fight of our freedom. Rizal paved the way for us to be liberated and free.
In conclusion, I believe that Rizal’s Life simply speaks of greatness. His achievements, works and what he has done to our country is incomparable. His sense of nationalism has set us free. We should be very thankful. So unless there’s nobody who could surpass what he has achieved and done, Rizal will forever be the greatest Filipino Hero ever.

  21. For me Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero because he lived with meaningful life even though he lived for only 34 years but it doesn’t matter. I remember taking up a “Rizal” subject in FEU-EAC, It feel interesting when I read his works and writing of Rizal, not only because he is famous but when you read all of Jose Rizal done in our country you can actually say that Jose Rizal is one of our role models. Rizal is a role model because he was the reason why the Filipinos realized that there was something wrong with their rights and freedom. Without Rizal, they would never think that they were being manipulated by the Spaniards and Rizal helped the Filipinos to boost their courage by writing its two novels, the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. One best example of a Filipino that Rizal boosts its courage is Andres Bonifacio because he was inspired because of the writings of Rizal. Because of the two novels of Rizal and other sacrifices made by Rizal many Filipinos fight for their own rights and later on, the Filipinos gain their independence simply because there were inspire of the works and writings of Rizal so that we can say that Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado Alonzo Y Realonda is the reason why we got our freedom until now, just remember that “pen is mightier than the sword”

  23. He is our national hero because, as a towering figure in the Propaganda Campaign, he took an admirable part in that movement which roughly covered the period from 1882 to 1896.He could have been whatever he wished to be, he could have earned considerable sums of money from his profession, he could have live relatively rich, happy, prosperous, had he not dedicated himself to public matters. He sacrifices a lot and suffered for the freedom of our country. He formed La Liga Filipina, a forum for Filipinos to express their hopes for reform and freedom from the oppressive Spanish colonial administration. He was arrested as a revolutionary and was exiled in Dapitan, Mindanao. His writings and La Liga Filipina were banned. Later, he was imprisoned in Fort Santiago, Manila after a trial. On December 30, 1896, he was executed by a firing squad at Bagumbayan, now known as Luneta, in Manila for spreading ideals of revolution. On the eve of his execution, Jose Rizal was a native of the island of Luzon, of which Manila is the capital. He was therefore a Malay, with the brown complexion, black eyes and straight, black hair which are the physical characteristics of his race.
Because in this writer’s humble opinion, no Filipino has yet born who could equal or surpass Rizal as a “person of distinguished value or enterprise in danger, or fortitude suffering”. Jose Rizal is a rebel but in a peaceful way. His writings expressed his love for his country and his people. His ideas are fully expressed in a way that things will be resolve in a peaceful manner. And also dying for whatever he stands for. Rizal basically gave birth to the rebellion against Spain called "Katipunan." Andres Bonifacio is the sort of the general aligns himself with Emilo Aguinaldo into the liberation for peace in the Philippines. I know how it may seem weird how Andres was actually the ones whom gave the fight, but it was Rizal who had gave his life at risk and sentenced to death by the Spanish to have gone against them. He’s a great inspiration actually; he refused to escape even though he had many opportunities.
Because he is a man honored after death by public worship, because of exceptional service to mankind. We can say that even before his execution, Rizal was already acclaimed by both Filipinos and foreigners as the foremost leader of his people. He wanted to express his death as a sign to our fellow countrymen to act on and to fight for your country.

Rizal took a huge part in making our nation independent and free. His two literary works Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo is the key that enflamed the hearts of our citizens this two novels opened and enlightened many Filipinos, which led to the freedom of country.

They say that a hero need to be. Courageous, Brave, and Smart. Many of the heroes that took part in making our country independent fit this description two of which are Jose rizal and Andres Bonifacio. But one attribute made Rizal the most qualified hero. A hero needs to have a kind heart. This is the why I think rizal is the greatest Filipino hero. 

    The Greatest Filipino Hero

Many Filipino heroes have put their lives on stake while protecting our country known as Philippines. They painstakingly battled and fought for our freedom against foreigner’s possession. But, who’s the greatest among them? Who’s the one which made the true meaning of being a Filipino hero? Who’s the one who care for our country the most? Who’s him? Is it Andres Bonifacio who is the “Great Plebian and Father of Katipunan”? Apolinario Mabini who is the “Sublime Paralytic and Brain of the Revolution”? Juan Luna who is the “Greatest Filipino Painter”? Is the greatest Filipino hero one of them? A little may concur but for most of us, they’re just not as great as the hero named as Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado Alonso Realonda y Quintos.

So, how was Rizal considered to be the greatest Filipino hero? First of all, unlike most of the heroes, Jose Rizal strategically used his wit in battling the Spaniards. The well-known two novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo show how Rizal bravely cares for our country with its objective of exposing the crooked government and injustice of the Spaniards. These novels ignite the emotions and care of the Filipinos on its own country and even the risk on Rizal’s life for publishing something negative to the reigning Spaniards. Second, he’s a contributor on the so-called La Solidaridad which was an organization to symbolize and uphold the Filipino cause at the Spanish Parliament at that time. In here, Rizal wrote the “Filipinos Dentro De Cien Anos” which is a socio-political essay that stated the depressing Philippine conditions at that time like it was already desolate, impecunious, having no confidence in their past, faith in the present and no excitement on the upcoming years; losing their ancient customs and such. Rizal also asked here if the Philippine islands will continue to become a Spanish colony, if the Filipinos will be separated from our mother country to live independently and others. These were just a bit of the essay of a person who absolutely loves his own country. Third, with the help of his “Sucesos Delas Islas Filipinas,” he tried to persuade some fellow Filipinos on other foreign countries to go back to their own country and help in the overhauling of their diseased land. Fourth, he founded La Liga Filipina which aim is to achieve sovereignty on the Spanish government in a peaceful way. The individuals forming the organization are looking forward that the oppression of the Spaniards to the Filipinos would be stopped. Lastly, Rizal’s the greatest hero for he’s the most special among all our national heroes. Rizal’s a national hero for he displayed unconditional love for his country.

Truly, Jose Rizal is the greatest among the Filipino heroes who had ever lived. He proved that a pen is sharper and mightier than a sword for it can deeply incise a person’s heart without causing any physical damage and can show love for its own contaminated country in a more serene and appealing way than shedding blood with the use of sword or any harmful weapons.

Undoubtedly, any problem can be solved in a tranquil way. No need for blood, pain, or agony. That’s one of the gallant ideas being valued by our greatest Filipino hero and as a Filipino, we should be very proud of him.

As a Filipino, I know that you know who was Rizal is, but some or many of us don’t know if why Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero. In this case I will give some points why we consider him to be our greatest hero.
First point is that, his nobility and dignity because instead of relying on the sword, he relied on the might of the pen. Using this method he was able to produce novels and poems that touched the Filipino’s soul. Without resorting to violence, he made Filipinos realize the oppression they were going through under the Spaniards. In his poems he also made it clear how important it was to love one’s country. It was a noble approach and something unique. Instead of raising arms, he embedded in the Filipino an idea. Unlike warriors, an idea cannot be killed. It is this reason why Jose Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines.
Second point is that when he shows that Filipinos have that potential because he was a brilliant writer and poet. He was able to speak several languages and highly skilled. He was able to use his intelligence to set forth his beliefs and opinions clearly. As such, he was able to show his countrymen and the world what the Filipino could be capable of. By becoming a novelist, engineer, writer etc Rizal showed that there was no limit to the ability of the Filipino.
And my last point is that he dies for our country because even though he carried no arms, Rizal was very brave and courageous. He used his pen to expose the hypocrisy of the Spanish authorities. He was not afraid of the authorities even when they threatened him with execution. In the end, his written works cost him his life. But he knew that his death was not in vain. The man knew that while they could kill his mortal body, the idea of freedom was forever in the minds of the people. It was a concept that would burn in the minds of every man. As long as the ideal was burning in the heart, the death of Rizal would only be in the physical sense. In spirit, he was in every individual.
The ideals that he fought for are still alive today. There are many challenges facing the Filipino. But the reason why Jose Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines continues to inspire the Filipino to march on.

Rizal is a sissy compared to Bonifacio , even Rizal is a mixed breed while Bonifacio is the true national hero of the Filipino, American choose Rizal so we become a passive race and submissive to their foreign agenda in the phil. even now, today our leaders are puppet from our big white brother while they consider us as their loyal brown monkeys. And because he spearheaded the revolution to gain Philippine independence from the 300-year Spanish rule, it was his revolutionary writings and nationalistic ideals that motivated Andres Bonifacio to form the KKK and from there everything is history. Because on this writer’s humble opinion, no Filipino has not yet been born who could equall or surpass Rizal as “ a person of distinguished valor or enterprise in danger or fortitude in suffering.” Rizal was the most intelligent, most courageous, and most dangerous enemy of the reactionaries and the tyrants; therefor, he should be shot publicly in order to serve as a example and a warning to those of his kind. he is “a man honored after death by public worship, because of exceptional service to mankind”. And because he stand out among Filipino heroes, many gave their lives and sacrificed their happiness and family to fight for an independent Philippines but Rizal stands out because of his intelligence as backed up by countless books, poems, essays and various professions. He embodies what a Filipino should be. Rizal was not only a Great hero but the greatest among the Filipinos.

To be called or considered a hero is just a pseudonym. All who fought for our freedom are considered heroes. However, Dr. Jose Rizal was exceptional because he had outstanding qualities and superior intelligence during his time.

As an ophthalmologist, he didn't only help alleviate his patients' visual impairment. He also opened the eyes of the Filipinos who were blinded by the cruelty and wrong doing of the Spaniards.

He awakened them from deep slumber to fight not only for their annihilated freedom but also for their rights.

He opted for a silent, non-bloody revolution. He calculated his actions. He utilized his intelligence properly. He used his pen to write about the cruelty and abuses of the Spaniards. He was able to vividly show through his pen the social disease that happened.

He said that freedom from the Spaniards was not what Filipinos really needed. He proposed government reforms and representation by Filipinos in the Courts.

No one has ever surpassed Rizal's achievements and accomplishments. Indeed, Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero.

José Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda was a Filipino polymath, patriot and the most prominent advocate for reform in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era. He is regarded as the foremost Filipino patriot and is listed as one of the national heroes of the Philippines by National Heroes Committee. His execution by the Spanish in 1896, a date marked annually as Rizal Day, a Philippine national holiday, was one of the causes of the Philippine Revolution. Historians and laymen can produce many reasons why Jose Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines. Below are some of the most frequently cited ones. During Jose’s brief 35 years he is credited with being an: anthropologist, architect, artists, businessman, cartoonists, cartographer, civil rights reformist, dramatist, diarist, editor, essayist, educator, economist, ethnologist, engineer, Freemason, hospital director, scientific farmer, historian, inventor, journalist, linguist, musician, mythologist, nationalist, naturalist, novelist, ophthalmic surgeon, pacifist, poet, propagandist, psychologist, playwright, martial artist, scientist, sculptor, sociologist, teacher, theologian and writer. He was also an expert swordsman and an excellent shot. He carried on a very active correspondence with intellectuals from around the world, often in their own language. Through his works, Rizal was able to revolutionize the way that the Filipino thought. That is another reason why Jose Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines. Even without making rousing speeches or bold declarations, he was able to stir the people’s inner spirit. He showed that without killing another man, one can fight oppression. He also demonstrated how the power of the pen could be stronger than the sword. He also showed how someone could bring about change without resorting to violence. Even though he carried no arms, Rizal was very brave and courageous. But the reasons why Jose Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines continues to inspire the Filipino to march on. According to Renato Constantino, when the American government conquered the island of the Philippines from the Spanish government in 1896, the American government established a commonwealth government after the Spanish revolutionary government ceased to govern the country. Rizal was indeed our National hero because of his idealism and nationalism who freed his people and his country from oppression and cruelty under Spanish era. Truly he was a symbol for a unified and a strong republic and an inspiration and a model to call for change. Finally, he was a martyr who stood for his beliefs.

Before I give my opinion about Rizal as our foremost national hero, it is better to know first the meaning of a hero. According to Webster’s New International Dictionary, a hero is a “prominent or central personage taking an admirable part in any remarkable action or event”. Also, “a person of distinguished valor or enterprise in danger, or fortitude in suffering” and “a man honored after death by public worship, because of exceptional service to mankind”. In my opinion if we compare Jose Rizal to other propagandists, I could say that Rizal contributed most compare to the other propagandists. His two novels, Noli and Fili, make a big impact to the Filipino people that make his life in danger. But he had shown to the Filipino people that he is willing to give his life for his own country. Even with controversies thrown to him, when he died he was still honored by our countrymen. These reasons that I give could show that Dr. Jose Rizal is one of the greatest hero of our country.

Rizal is our greatest Filipino hero here in our nation . He show the true hero within our country . Despite of his objectives , he didn’t did that in a cruel way like the other hero did . He did his objectives through a simple way of presenting a relative and well organized reforms to pursue the public hindrances of the society. Also this reforms advocate a new and synchronized society that balances the needs of each individuals. Rizal is a greatest Filipino hero because he think first before he act. He also use his education to become more rationalized and well respect person. Actually, Their family are in a middle class on the society that tends him to study in a prestigious school in Manila at that time.

Rizal is very rational and well educated individual. He is our greatest national hero on our country. He strive many problems and difficulties to pursue his good plan for us. Rizal is a very benevolent person. Despite the fact that, he exile most just to pursue on our future, many of Filipino were not cooperating on him but instead they lead on the part of the Spanish. Also Rizal shows the real strength of a hero, he pertain that the power of pen is puissant than the blade of a sword. He fight for our rights without using any sword to spare, a blood to shed but a simple writings that embraces the reality. He also help people no matter what happen, his beloved girlfriend got lost to him because of his ambitions. Also, his beloved brother Paciano got tortured because of him, but beside of this tragedy of his miserable life he overcome his depression, continue to his goals and never giving up everything.

Through his works and achievements to our country he wanted to show how important it was for the Philippines to be civilized. He used his pen to expose the hypocrisy of the Spanish authorities. He was not afraid of the Spaniards even when they threatened him with execution.
The Noli Me Tangere and the El Filibusterismo is the reason why the Filipino’s hearts enlightened to led freedom from the Spaniards Government. Rizal’s only weapon was his pen because for him “ pen is mightier than the sword “. So , many people admired Rizal from his worked.

I would say, all filipino could be a hero. But there should be only one,the only greatest hero among all heroes of the Philippines and that is our Dr. Jose Rizal.Rizal fought for our country by means of using pen, he contradict all of the plans under the priest dectatorship. He gave light and awakened the eyes of all filipino people against the spaniards dictatorship.

He shows courage in order for us to be enlightened and do what is must. He also show the true meaning of a hero because he fight for our right in a unblooded way but by using a pen saying the reality of our society. He pertains that pen is mightier than a sword. But the true characteristics of a real hero is to fight for our country in a way that their will be no casualties will be done.

  35. Rizal is the greatest Philippine hero because of his contributions for Philippine independence. Rizal’s works are the most important factor that makes him the greatest Philippine hero. Noli me Tangere the first novel of Rizal was an eye opener for the Filipino people during those days on how the Spanish treat the Filipinos. The second novel was El Felibusterismo this novel for me truly ignites the Filipino’s hunger for freedom, encouraging his countrymen to fight against the foreign oppressor. It is true; many other Philippine heroes wrote things that contribute for Philippine freedom but what makes Rizal’s work above them all is his NAME, Rizal wrote his name on his two novels the Noli me tangere and el felibusterismo, he wrote his name even if it means he will be endangered by his works, even if the Spanish government will hunt him but the greatest thing is that, he returns to the Philippines knowing that his life is in danger. Yes Rizal didn’t fight the revolution but he ignites it, true that he didn’t fire any bullet to the Spanish soldiers to gain the Filipino freedom but he uses his pen in doing so. Courage together with knowledge that what makes Rizal as the greatest Philippine hero.

Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero because of instead of relying on the sword, he relied on the might of the pen.

Why is Rizal our greatest national hero?

We all know that Dr. Rizal is one of our national heroes and for me, he is the greatest. He is known for his two great novels the noli me tangere and el filibusterismo and he live his life like us but his mentality belongs is so great and he learned a lot of things in his journey in the other countries that he visited or in other words, he is genius. He sacrificed his life in order for us to be independent.
Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero for me because he is genius and he planned all his moves against the Spaniards in order for the Filipinos to lift or wake the Filipinos up and rise up from the unnecessary things that was done to them. Rizal did not like the rule or the criticisms and the rage of the Spaniards to the Filipinos because if you see that our country is like that now, we might be so mad and can’t do an action to stop the rage or madness of the Spaniards. Rizal is so brave that he did an action against the Spaniards to stop the wrong doings of them. By his two great novels, Rizal expresses his anger against the Spaniards that he knows that his life would be in danger if he did that thing, with all his feelings; he put his life in danger to wake us up. The journey that Rizal had gone through help him so much in order to come up with a nice novel because in his journey, he learned the different cultures and the government of the other countries and he wants to apply it in our country for us to have a nice or better country than others. Being independent in our own country makes our life peaceful because you can live your life without a ruler that is beside you and torture you if you commit a single yet simple or little mistake.
All the things that was done to the Filipinos before, is not nice to see because living in your country, you must die for your country that is what we called the nationality. What might be the essence of living in your country without defending it? So that is why Rizal is our greatest national hero.

  38. " Pen is mightier than a sword ". These are the words came from the greatest hero in the history of the Philippines. He is known to be Doctor Jose Rizal. Many people believes that he must be declared as the greatest hero of all times here in the Philippines and for me it should be done. His works are incredible. His novel change the mindset of the Filipinos. It triggers the explosive nationalism of the indios in the time of the spaniards. Even though he use his pen rather than using gun, we can say that Rizal took more risk than being in the field fighting with the spaniards by putting his name in his two novels namely Noli Me Tangere and El Filibuterismo. Even though hi knew that he will be wanted by writings his novels, still he did it for the filipinos to see the reality in that time. He wanted to have a justice and balance between the spain and the philippines, He wanted to take away all the discrimination that is very active in that time. Rizal fights the spaniards by using his intelligence and not by his vengeance. His death is the main reason of all the secret movement in the philippines to finally come out and fight for its freedom. truly Rizal is one of a kind person that lived and saved the Philippines.

Remember that even though we dont have any powers, we all can be a hero by fighting for whats right and loving your country as you love the one who creates it.

First of all, every individual can be great. Being a great individual is not hard. Just be a good role model and love your country like Rizal.

In my opinion, Rizal is the greatest Filipino because he is a well educated man, talented, and he fought for the Philippines during the Spanish Colonization that's why he was honored to be our National Hero.

He also said that "The pen is mightier than the sword". He might not even have to fight in a way of killing, but instead in a way of writing. When he wrote and published his novels, the Spaniards reacted and got affected with it, and that serves as a wake up call and inspiration to the Filipinos that they were not stupid and dumb enough at all.

I guess without Rizal, the Filipinos would not realize and never think that they were only manipulated by the Spaniards. He believed that the we Filipinos have our freedom and can dominate or get rid of it by our own hands.

It's nice to have a countrymen like Rizal,
He is really a great role model to us.

A hero could be identified by his noble deeds and integrity, as what Rizal has done and shown to us. Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero because he had the true love for his country and he has the sense of nationalism, he was being recognized in his own way. He had wonderful dreams for our country and shown good Filipino values. As a hero he contributed to the quality of life and destiny of our nation, he worked for reforms in the Philippines during Spanish colonial era by peaceful means rather than by violent revolution. He was the greatest, comparing to other heroes that advocated bloody revolution, he used his head, not his arms in fighting. He was an intelligent, a good brother and son, and devoted for country.
Rizal was being recognized as the greatest hero because of his different way of thinking. He is not only thinking about the present, he always considering the future generation. He opened the eyes of the people believing that in this way people may realize what they should do to attain nation’s freedom. He put danger in his life and to his family, but what he prioritized is his countrymen. He inspired many individuals including Bonifacio, and until now we won’t ever forget his good deeds and sacrifices.
Rizal had many achievements, for he was intelligent and independent even at the very young age. He is a good doctor and writer. He knows a lot of things, he can speak different dialects, and he is really a professional. Though he knew that it was dangerous for him and to his family, he continued his writings, especially the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo which talks about the abuses by the Spaniards against Filipinos. All he wanted was a reformation but the government did not grant it.
In his life, we find adventure and drama of martyrdom, which caught our interest. With his short time of living, he proved a lot of things and made every event of his life worthy. Without any hesitation, he gave his life for the country, for he believed that through this way, there will be a better future for the Philippines. His life and works are a big part of our history for he made the way for our freedom.
Imagine without Rizal, what and where would be us today? Is it possible to have a hero like him? Or we’ll just be a part of Spain? Fortunately, he existed, and we had attained our freedom from the Spaniards. His death served as a way to born the new Philippines. These contributions of Rizal signified him as the greatest Filipino hero.

First of all, who is Dr. Jose Rizal. He was born on June 19, 1861, in the town of Calamba, Laguna. He was the seventh child in a family of 11 children, at the age of 3, he learned the alphabet from his mother and at 5, while learning to read and write, he already showed inclinations to be an artist. At the age 8, he wrote a Tagalog poem, "Sa Aking Mga Kabata", and at the age of 16, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree with an average of "excellent" from the Ateneo Municipal de Manila. In the same year, he enrolled in Philosophy and Letters at the University of Santo Tomas, while at the same time took courses leading to the degree of surveyor and expert assessor at the Ateneo. He finished the latter course on March 21, 1877 and passed the Surveyor’s examination on May 21, 1878, but because of his age, 17, he was not granted license to practice the profession until December 30, 1881. In 1878, he enrolled in medicine at the University of Santo Tomas but had to stop in his studies when he felt that the Filipino students were being discriminated upon by their Dominican tutors. On May 3, 1882, he sailed for Spain where he continued his studies at the Universidad Central de Madrid. On June 21, 1884, at the age of 23, he was conferred the degree of Licentiate in Medicine and on June 19, 1885, at the age of 24, he finished his course in Philosophy and Letters with a grade of "excellent."

Now we know a little about his life. Now we’ll know discover why he is the greatest Filipino hero in our life. We consider him as a national hero because he’s a aspects individual both through the mind and manipulative areas, not to mention his inherit character and the love to people, especially to the poor. His sensitivity to the needs of others was overwhelming as evidenced by his sincere services to the people as doctor, engineer, teacher, artist, farmer and the like. He fought through his pen, books and knowledge. He did not fight through guns and swords. With the articles he has written, of which most of the topics discussed were all about slavery and abused, he has touched lives, awakened the people, but also provoked the Spaniards that sent him to jail. But even then, he was still fighting, not for himself or for his family, but more for his people, for us through his ideas, through poems and other written articles. Such as, El filibusterismo which means The Rebel. This book tells about the portrayal of corruption and abuse by the country's Spanish government and clergy, exposed the cruelties of the Spanish friars in the Philippines, the defects of the Spanish administration and the vices of the clergy, these books told about the oppression of the Spanish colonial rule.

And in Noli Me Tangere which means Touch me Not tells as about the The book is a social commentary narrating the cruelty of the Spanish friars to the Filipinos. The novel is woven around the romance of Crisostomo Ibarra and Maria Clara but the deeper and more subtle theme revolves around the abuses of Spanish priests and the colonial government. Crisóstomo Ibarra is the son of Don Rafael Ibarra, and had studied in Europe. María Clara is a girl blessed with beauty, grace and charm. She is the daughter of a Spanish friar (priest), Padre Dámaso, and a Filipina, Doña Pía Alba, who is married to Santiago de los Santos, popularly known as Capitán Tiago.
The Spanish authorities, particularly Padre Dámaso, hated and feared Crisóstomo Ibarra--a young, wealthy, European-educated Filipino--because of his patriotic and progressive ideas of helping his oppressed countrymen.
He also maid a lot of books that contradicts about the Spaniards before. We now know that Dr. Jose Rizal is a person who isn’t violent in fighting other people; he used his knowledge and his pen to fight the Spaniards before which was very effective and powerful. So this is why one of the reason that he is our national hero.

  42. For me Rizal is the Greatest hero because he died fighting for the right to the goodness of his fellow Filipino's. He wrote the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo which are about spreading of enthuasism, and the aim to put on their minds. Youth is the key to success of the country The three reason why rizal has chosen to become the national hero are the following: First, he was the first Filipino who opened the mind of the Filipino's in slaverism of the Spaniards. Second, he wants everything to be at peace. Its natural to the Filipino's to be quite and they don't like to argue about it. Lastly, Filipino's are sentimental they realize what had Rizal experienced in hands of the Spaniards.

As i learn about life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal, i consider him as the great Filipino hero, even though he only lives for 35 years in this world, no one could do better except for him, for what he had done, during the Spaniards era in this Philippine Island. He didn't fought tru sword, gun, or any other physical weapons, He fought tru his writings and novels, two famous novels the Noli Me tangere and the Elfibustirismo, the reason why he was sentenced death because Spaniards consider his works as a rebellion.

He deserves for this title, of being our national hero because he is the only hero who put his tru name, tru identity on his works compare to the others that they put only a pen name, reason to hide their identities. Rizal's works was remarkable, tremendouz effort has been made so for me, he is the one and only national hero.

  44. Rizal is indeed the Greatest Filipino Hero because he represents what Filipinos should be. Most Filipino Heroes represent Filipinos at that time. They are representing us as people without Freedom, poor, never reaching liberty's hand. Rizal was different. He was unique due to the fact that he never thought of violent acts. Yes, he made ideas and conclusions inside his two great novels, yet he never really got into a fight. He was the bravest of all heroes, not fearing that he might be arrested and executed for his works. He has the power to change lives even without the use of a "bolo", so as to say he never killed someone. He has the determination in which made him what he is said to be. In all the things i mentioned about him, it is what we Filipinos should be nowadays. He really represents what we should be, for all time.

Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero because he didn't have to fight with his blood but with his brain and his pen only. Actually, it's not really all about the writings, it's about Rizal's drive in making the Filipino people realize that we are not dumb enough to be ruled out by the Spaniards. After Rizal was executed, he became a role model which helped the Filipinos boost their courage and later made them defeat the Spaniards and the other conquerors as well. And Rizal was the reason why the Filipinos realized that there was something wrong with their rights and freedom. Without Rizal, they would never think that they were only being manipulated by the Spaniards and that they could really outstand them all and live Philippines with their own hands. Rizal is ideal for the first place because he stood with honor despite of the powerful friars who ruled to our country that time. Opportunity is on the way to study abroad and he used that to gain our respect to our country and fight the Spaniards in terms of writings.

No Filipino has yet been born who could equal or surpass Rizal as "a person of distinguished valor or enterprise in danger.

And let us note further what other great men said about the pen being mightier and more powerful than the sword. Napoleon I himself, who was a great conqueror and ruler, said;"There are only two powers in the world, the sword and the pen; and in the end the former is always conquered by the latter" The following statement of Sir Thomas Browne is more applicable to the role played by Rizal in our libertarian struggle: Scholars are men of peace; they bear no arms; but their tongues are sharper than the sword; their pens carry further and give a louder report than thunder. I had rather stand in the shock of a basilisk than fury of a merciless pen". And finally, let us quote from Bulwer: "Take away the sword; states can be saved without it;bring the pen!".

Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonzo Realonda was born in Calamba, Laguna on June 19, 1861. He was the seventh child of Francisco Engracio Rizal Mercado y Alejandro and Teodoro Morales Alonzo Realonda y Quintos. He earned his doctorate degree in medicine in Madrid in 1885. His novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, bravely exposed the brutality of the Spanish colonizers to the helpless Filipinos. These two books were the reasons why Spanish colonizers ordered his execution on December 31, 1896 in Bagumbayan, now Rizal Park.

As a Pilipino and a student Dr. Jose Protection Rizal Mercado y Alonzo Realonda is the greatest hero to me because we do not enjoy the peace of our country but because of him. He became a great hero of the Filipino as in life he wanted but he never changes in our country because in life he was no freedom for the Filipino conquest of foreign countries in our country. Dr. Jose Protection Rizal Mercado y Alonzo Realonda have a largest contributions to our country through his written novels and poetry, “napamulat” ni Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonzo Realonda the Philippine corruption of Spanish officials and friars.

He also inspired each Pilipino patriotism and absolute love for his country. He roused the spirit and mentality of his countrymen to defend the country in the hands of the conqueror. He wants to be free every Filipinos do they want in their homeland. From here, the Philippines develop its own energy and independence of the Filipinos. The most “nakakahanga” Rizal was not that he had to think for himself, his complete abandonment of his personal interest only imagine his country.

  55. Our greatest filipino hero is Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal, because he fought for freedom in a silent but powerful way.
He is the one who used intellectual way of fighting to the Spaniards.
He used pen rahter than sword and he expressed his love for the Philippines through his novels,
essays and articles rather than through the use of force or aggression.
    Like La Solidaridad,and Noli Metangere..
it shown here how we are oppressed and insulted by the invaders.
He used his novels to open the eyes of the filipinos and he sacrificed for our country.

Rizal's weapon of choice is still alive today and still battling enemies after many years.
That's why he still inspire many people to read his novels..

  56. Jose Rizal became the Philippine national hero because he fought for freedom in a silent but powerful way.

  57. Rizal is declare as a greatest hero because of his great contributions in our country including his two books Noli me tangere & El filibusterismo, and as we all know Rizal is educated person and he mastered 22 languages. Rizal the greatest apostole of filipino nationalism, he is the only filipino writer who used his real name & signiture in his two great books, for me the qualification of being the greatest hero is in RIZAL'S personality .

  58. Even though he carried no arms, Rizal was very brave and courageous.

But the reasons why Jose Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines continues to inspire the Filipino to march on.

  59. Rizal was our national hero Because Rizal has contributed much to our country without shedding any blood.Unlike the other heros we had, Rizal fought the invaders not by harsh means but in a way that he can easily seep through the soul of the filipinos. And he also faced his death without fear.

  60. Rizal is our national hero because he opened the "eyes" of the Filipinos and gave us the courage and strength to start things that benefits us and not the Spaniards. He wish for equality because he knows that our colonizers won't let the Philippines be free.

Fact: Philippines is the only country that has a national hero and it's Jose Rizal.

  61. Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero because he was the one who made his countrymen realize that they have to stand up against the Spanish authorities. What makes it great is that, he did not resolve into fighting but by the books he wrote, the Noli me tangere and the El filibusterismo. He stood up for what he believed in, that the pen is mightier than the sword.

He died, but what he believed in lived among each and every heart of his countrymen in which he left his hope. Especially to the youth in which he believed to be the hope of the country’s future.

  62. Rizal is considered the greatest filipino hero because Rizal never held a gun, a rifle, or a sword in fighting for the liberty & independence of our country in the battlefield instead he wrote the book Noli and El Fili. a book that tells how cruel are the spaniards to the filipinos. he did not even use any alias and write his name as the author of the book. which is very courageous.

  63. In my own humble opinion, Rizal is not the best Filipino hero. Why? When you say "the best" it means "beyond all others." I believe that the future generation can surpass the previous generation. For example Benigno Aquino Jr. . He died for the freedom of his countrymen. Isn't that great? He died from the very own hands of his fellow countrymen unlike Rizal, he died from the hands of the Spaniards. My point is, Rizal should not be overrated as the best Filipino hero. His pen is mightier than a sword, it is true but let us not forget also that action speaks louder than words.
