When I was third year high school I used to play much different instruments. One day our music teacher brought a co-teacher, this co-teacher is a guitarist, and this guy really good in guitar. Until he played the piece “La Grima”, when he’s about to pluck his strings, my classmates shouted “kaya mo ba yan pao?”, they keep on shouting because in my high school days I used to be known as a guitar guru (hahaha), so when they keep on shouting, the guy asked me, “do you know how to play guitar?”, while he was asking me, he continuously plucks his guitar, so for me I think he was challenging me to play guitar, and I neglected that I don’t play guitar, but inside of my head I keep on thinking that that piece is so easy. He ask me again, ”ano gusto mo tugtugin ko?”. I told him, “sige nga sir, tugtugin mo nga ung Cannon!”, and he played it, like it was a chicken for him to play it. And I said, “kayak o din yan, SISIW!”
Until I began to read the tabs of two pieces he played. I was like “ SHIT! ang yabang ko pala sa isip isip ko that time!ang hirap nito !!”, after that I told to my bandmate and kabarkada that that piece is so hard to learn. Until now, I can’t still play the whole two pieces in guitar.
When we are playing basketball during our high school days. A lot of my friends always invite me t play basketball in their place. Then one day I accept their invitation when we are playing there are also some other student who are playing inside the court, then one of them shouted who ever wins in the first match will occupy the whole court then all of us agreed with them. we thought that we can win over them then occupy the whole court but during the game we have some difficulties in defeating them and that's the time that we feel that we are very confident with ourselves.
When i was 4th yr HS. i took up entrance exams on different schools. i passed some of them i failed some. But when i was about to take this exam on this school i said to my self i'll pass my test here, dito ako mag aaral. But when i started the test i told my self bongga, hindi pala madali to. then i still kept answering until i blow my mind off.
The Rationalism VS. Empiricism exeperience i have happened just this recently about a 2 weeks ago in my part i am a rationalistic person i am the type of man whos is good in logical thinking sorry about being boastful but i think that is who i am but don't worry I suck at my empiricism side that's why the story started when i have to take my midterm exam in p.e i have a bad day every Friday (simply because its my p.e day)i am not bad in p.e but i am quite a slow learner when it comes to p.e well i almost forgot my p.e is the modern filipino arnis which requires flexibility a lot which i don't have But after i have trained hard enough to impress girls in our class (just kidding (^^) ) i got a solid 97% grade in my p.e midterms as a result of all the hard work i put in o i have the 4th spot of one of the highest in our class!! well i hope you too when you also got this dilemma similar or the opposite with me ( about rationalistic and empirisitic conflicts) Don't give up! you'l see the fruits of your labor soon too.
Rationalism is any view appealing to reason as a source of knowledge or justification, it is like the learning process I experienced RATIONALISM when I transferred here in FEU-EAC. As I was in the process of transferring and submitting the requirements I always asked what should I do and where I should go next . Empiricism is a theory of knowledge that asserts that knowledge comes only or primarily from sensory experience and I experienced EMPIRICISM when one of my former classmate in Mapua, asked me "What are needed requirements in transferring in FEU-EAC?" I can use my experience in helping him in transferring.
Every time I make a decision I will always allow myself to be guided by my intuition. One of my examples of rationalism is that during the time of getting subjects online in Mapua. I was figuring out what subjects I want to take because I don’t want myself being too busy every day so I have to get the subjects which are related with others. I don’t have any idea what will be taught in those subjects I have taken. One of my examples of empiricism is when I was walking in the street, and I see the heavy clouds. I knew the rain comes, and it would fall anytime soon. I’ve experienced it many times in my life so that I always bring my umbrella.
Before I graduate high school, I used to think that engineering courses was easy, because most of the subjects are mathematics. That was my favorite subject, BEFORE. So I took computer engineering because I love math and computers. But as time goes by, things are getting complicated. There was a time that I need to sleep late or wake up early just to study because there was an exam. There are things I’ve realized on my experiences as a student of the said course. That this course is really hard, so a part of me decided to shift course to psychology, but half me, told me that I should stand on what I started.
Engineering was not just a simple course. “Petiks Petiks” is not allowed. You need to be responsible enough for you to become successful on your chosen field.
Whenever there is a quiz or exam, I study the day before that exam. One night, I study late because I finished first my assignments and projects. And I am not used to study late, but I said to myself, I have to, or else I will fail the exam. In the middle of my studying, I felt sleepy. I am used to sleep early. My mind keep on saying that I need to study of the exam for me to pass while my body is tired and wants to get in the bed since I need to woke up early. In the end, my mind prevails. I have studied what I need to study even my body is so exhausted. XD
I really don’t know what course to pursue. I know what I want but I don’t think it will lead me to a good future. Now, I’m here, taking up Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. I’m afraid to fail, and this is ENGINEERING. We all know what’s in store for this program. By seeing many Engineering students fail, we conclude that it’s not JUST CpE. It IS Cpe. By being one of the students and experience those sleepless nights, cramming, and receiving almost failing exams, I have learnt what’s in it. Most of the time, after doing major exams, I see myself do this - mind says, “That’s the end and you will never reach the finish line.” but body moves and it has the drive to take all the challenges in my way. It continues to study but yes, mind doesn’t absorb all. Opposite? Sometimes, when mind says that I should have the courage and spirit to pursue this program body says I must rest, and continue gaining knowledge tomorrow. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes, it's a quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again, tomorrow."
There was a time that I was with my cousins. We were wandering around the mall. And we saw a magic show and many people were also watching. There were different kind of magic, we have also seen the magician’s partner sawed in half and the magician also made his things appear and disappear. Of course we were impressed. But still in our thoughts we know that those are just tricks even though we don’t know what is really happening but we know that those are just illusions. But we still become excited on what the magician will do and we watched it until the end.
Rationalism and Empiricism, two perceptions or ideas of man when it comes into their lives. I, myself have this in mind whether to be a rational or empiricist, this two ideas where still contradicting in my mind. Sometimes I do think to have them both or balance the two, but one thing I realized that I cannot balance everything, for me balance is not the right term, rather it is to manage.
My personal experience about this two ideas goes like this. When I was in grade school I attended many leadership forum or seminars, even though I was not a leader at that time, with that many concepts about leadership was introduced to me. When I was in high school I became a student leader, in my last year of being student leader, I became the Student Council President, then one it suddenly flashed back to my mind what I learned from the forums and seminars years ago, then I realized , not all the concept that was introduced to me was applicable at all time. There are concepts that used to be perfect but actually when it comes into application it is quite different. In generalization, not all ideas are the same when it was applied.
Although Rationalism and Empiricism are two types of "beliefs" with regards to obtaining knowledge, I believe that people can obtain knowledge from both reasoning and experience. Knowledge obtained through reasoning (Rationalism) and knowledge obtained from experience (Empiricism) are two ways of learning. There is no set belief that will change the fact that people can learn from both reasoning and experience.
For me, rationalism is a way of learning without having to actually experience something. This could be in the form of reasoning, critical thinking or simply through listening to the stories and advices of people who already have experience with something. For instance, there was a time when I was once playing chess with my two cousins, one of my cousins would always give me advice whenever I'm stuck at a certain position. Although he gives me some advice with what move I should make whenever I'm stuck, he always makes it clear that I should not make a move just based on his advice. Rather, I should consider his advice and look for a better move. During the game I would make moves that would seem "off" from his advice. However, every time I make moves that would seem stupid and away from his advice, I already reasoned with myself why my move is better than my cousin's advice and because of this, I won that game. Those moves that I made during the game because of reason is an example of knowledge obtained through rationalism.
In contrast, if I apply empiricism in that scenario, supposing that I did not listen to my cousin's advice nor had I reason with myself, I would have made moves that were pointless/meaningless, moves that were not really good or simply moves that would have cost me the game. In fact, I probably would have lost that game had I not listen to my cousin's advice. However, even if I lose that game because I didn't listen to his advice, it would not change the fact that I would still have learned something. Although that knowledge I learn would probably be at the expense of losing the game, that is still knowledge. Such is an example of knowledge obtained through experience.
In a different experience which applies empiricism, when I was still a novice at Call of Duty, I would often play without using my headset. This often leads to me dying because someone sneaked up on me and I didn't know that there was a person following me. Very often I would only last about 30 seconds whenever I play a scrimmage with my online friends and would always end up as the bottom feeder because I didn't wear my headset. However, through experience I learned that I should wear my headset whenever I play competitively as people could hear me walking/running around. After learning about the power of the headset, my skill was dramatically boosted. Ever since, I usually use a headset whenever I play Call of Duty.
In summary, the idea with rationalism is that knowledge is obtained through reasoning. I could give a better picture with the statement: "A person does not need to experience failure in order to know failure. A person can know failure from those who have failed." In contrast with empiricism where knowledge is obtained through experience, it can be better seen with the statement: "A person can only know failure if he himself have experienced failure." For me, I believe that people can learn from both the experiences of others and from one's own experience. No one needs to fail just to know how it is to fail.
Almost every morning, my rationalism and empiricism experience happens. It starts from the time that I wake up and it is so cold that my bed tries to keep pulling me to sleep. However, I need to take a bath in that freezing and arctic shower immediately so I won’t be late in class. My body is incapable of doing it but my mind prevails. After taking a bath opening the door of my room, here comes my roommates lying on their bed, blankets on their body, in front of their fans sleeping silently. They tempt me to sleep again but I always say I need to go to school now. When I reached the tech building, here comes the long line of students waiting for the elevator. I also want to use it because I’m not in the state of using the stairs due to sleepiness and the level of the building that I’m up to but I will be surely late in class so stairs wins. Even if our body cannot resist or is lazy in some things in our life, sometimes our minds can change it…
My experience about Rationalism and Empiricism is when I played a match in a game of League of Legends. When I play this game I always get better each and every match because I’m using my experiences and learning from my failures, this is Empiricism. But when I’m not playing I also try to learn more about the game by watching tutorials and reading guides to be able to be better at the game, this is Rationalism. So Empiricism and Rationalism should be balanced in a way that you should not neglect to learn with your mind and learn with your experiences. In my case, I always tend to look back at my games and wonder why I lost that match and I manage to learn from my mistakes. At the same time I don’t neglect watching and reading guides for playing the game.
There is one time in my life that one of my friends introduce to me one game , it is called "games of the general", he explained to me the mechanics and everything about it, so we talk and talk and talk, until I totally understand all about the game (and i thought this as rationalism). the next day he brought that board game in our house, and I realized that even though I know all the mechanics and techniques in this game but if I don't play it, that's nothing but a knowledge in my mind without an act of doing it in reality.
There was this one time in high school that we had a practical test in Computer about Visual Basic. I don't really participate on the lessons our teacher discusses and sometimes I almost slept because it was boring. I just see my classmate's notes and familiarize myself on the codes. So when the test commences I find the test very hard. I don't know what to do and just type different codes I know. And then I think for a couple of minutes on what to do and what I should do. So I tried to start typing again. By knowing what each codes do and analyze what should be the flow of the program, I came up with a successful, running program. Thanks to my deductive reasoning, I barely passed the test. Rationalism and Empiricism are the two sources to gain our knowledge. We need both to gain knowledge in certain areas. We can gain knowledge by reasoning, intuitions and deductions. But without enough sense experience on what we are doing, we will find it hard gaining knowledge from it.
In my elementary days, I joined the Red Cross Youth (RCY) in my school because I thought that it is easy to became a first aider. I'm in the 5th grade when I went to a meeting of RCY and I met the two advisers and all the members. In the meeting or we can call it an orientation for the new members they told us the history of RCY, the founder, chairman of RCY in the Philippines and all the important information about RCY. In the next meeting I felt excitement because they will start to teach us about the basics in first aid such as giving first aid to the different wounds, giving CPR, bandaging and transferring of the victims. They showed us, giving CPR, bandaging and transferring and I said to myself that "I CAN DO THAT IT IS EASY" but when I tried I realize that it's not easy to became a first aider because there are many factors that should consider like proper way of transferring the way you carry and hold the victim and in bandaging it is important that you know the square knot because in real situation if you tie it wrongly you will consume more time and we all know that time is very important in case of emergency. There are many thoughts that circling in my mind in that time such as if I can learn all the techniques in bandaging, transferring and etc. So I came up on practicing all the techniques that's why my adviser in RCY chose me to be an observer in the yearly competition of RCY so that I'll be ready for the next year competition. In the competition one of the member of the team that represents our school was not feeling well so my adviser included me in the team and I felt happy and nervous in that time. But due to all the practice that I made I felt confidence in myself and I applied it in the competition. I felt happiness because we ranked 3rd. When I'm in the 6th grade I became the leader of one of the team that represents our school since I had an experienced in this competition I taught all my members the techniques and we're confident because we practice so hard such as sacrificing our time for study and going home late. Through all the sacrifices we experienced we brought home the bacon even though we ranked 3rd. This experience involves rationalism and empiricism in a way that in terms of making strategies/tactics/techniques I use the power of my mind and empiricism because of the experience that I gained since I joined the competition once and all the practices and sacrifices that all together we did to have a fruitful result.
For me, it is better to gain knowledge in both rationalism and empiricism. When I was in high school, I use to have "hardcore" friends. They told me to join their band because they are lack of "drooooomer" but I don't know how to play that instrument. But, I really wanted to join so I decided to watch drum covers on Youtube. I used to memorize how the drummers do their covers. On the studio, my friends asked me to play drums. I am so nervous while playing the drums and of course I got failureS but still I'm happy that I did it even though it's my first time. And because I enjoyed doing it, we often go to studio, play instruments and because of practice I can say that I improved A LITTLE. :D

Tajantajan, Leonardo Jr. R. #46 There was this thing called “rubiks cube” that a lot of students in our school uses as past time. Even in elementary I saw these rubiks cubes but I didn’t even bother to check it out but when I was in high school my classmate had one and because that thing is the most played thing in our school that time and my curiosity, I borrowed it. Then I said to myself “there’s no way these scrambled colors will be together at once” and then I tried to do it but all I can do is 1 face out of 6. So, I dared my classmate to fix it in front of me so that I can see if he’s cheating or not. Well after few minutes… I got tired and bored watching him but after waiting for more few minutes, he fixed it. I was amazed that time and I told my classmate to teach me, good thing my classmate is kind so he taught me the methods on how to do it. After a few days of practicing, I finally did it too! So from that moment I speak to myself that I was wrong thinking that the rubiks cube cannot be fixed and I played it for 5 weeks and I even bought my own rubiks cube so that I can master the methods and fixed it faster than I used to. Even though you believe some things that you think is true, you can’t be so sure of that if there are no proofs about it. But it’s up to you if you want to just believe it without even testing it or believe it with some testing. Knowledge can be acquire easily but you need to apply it on order for you to learn.
My experience about Rationalism happens every day in my school. I’m learning by the help of our teacher. Example by elaborating our hard subject so we can analyze it easily.
Empiricism
When I was in high school, I was scared to drive a motorcycle until my friend told me that it so easy men you’re just like riding a bicycle. So I keep on thinking until I say”kaya nila kaya ko rin” but if I fail I will never do it again. Then I do it, and until now nothing serious happened to me. At first, it was difficult but then I get used to it and master it.
I have lots of skills in troubleshooting computer. I learned that skill through EXPERIENCE at first i was afraid to open a computer because I am scared of electric shock but now i am not afraid in fact that is my "side line" to help my parents in terms of money. The reason why i choose an engineering because i love math but now math is very hard especially integral calculus. Everyday I go to school to learn to new things with the help of our great professors especially sir RAYMOND Q. DATUON.
I was in 4th year high school and we are doing our thesis. At first i really don't know what to do so whenever our group will work on our thesis, i make excuses for me to do nothing. But in the end i told myself that i can do it if i just study how this thesis would be successful. I talk to my brother and ask for help with our thesis,he also did their thesis when he was in 4th year high school so he experienced everything and he also gave me links on the internet where i can study different terms and tips that i can use in our thesis. With all the information that I've gathered, i was able to participate in our thesis and it was successful in our final presentation.
When I was a first year student of Mapua Institute of Technology. We had a quiz in English and Math, but since I love Math subjects I did not study at all because for me Math is an easy subject and I always get a high score in Math because I studied. I felt so over confident that I will pass my Math quiz that is why I only studied my English subject because I am not so good at it, I even woke up early just to study again. I went to class early because we are having a quiz. I can see my blockmates studying and even panicking in our Math quiz but me I do not even study except for my English subject. Our quiz in Math was about to start, I excited because it is my favorite. When I got the paper and saw the quiz, I was shocked because I never expected that it was that hard. I did not know how to start and what to do because as I have said I did not study. When I looked around, my blockmates had started answering, but me I still did not know what to do. I only answered few from the quiz but I have no choice but to pass my paper because it is already time and on that day I have realized that I should have studied since I have so much time to study on both subjects but chose to study my English subject because I know that I am not so good at it and I also realized that no matter how good I am in a certain subject I still need to study because I do not have enough knowledge to answer my quiz or quizzes without even studying. Since we are quarter sem, after our quiz, my professor announced that we will be having a quiz again after a couple of weeks. I have learned my lesson, so I studied everyday because I want to get a high score which I failed to get last quiz. I went to school early because I do not want to be late in our quiz, so when I entered our classroom, they are all studying and so did I. When the quiz had started it felt so different from the last time I took the quiz because I know what to do and how to start. I passed my paper knowing that I did my best. When our professor gave back our papers, I got a high score and it felt so good. I admit I made a mistake and felt so over confident, but I am proud that I have learned from that mistake and until now I am applying it in my studies.
Back in high school, we had our computer classes about Adobe Flash CS4 and Movie Maker. During the class, I usually don’t listen that much because I experienced using the program by myself. So I thought that my knowledge about the topic will be enough to pass this subject. But then when I was about to do a project the teacher asked us to do, I don’t know what to do because I don’t listen during the lecture. From that moment, I started listening to my teacher because I know she can give me more knowledge about the topic she is discussing and so that I can make the activities and exercises correctly.
My experience on rationalism is every time when i am in class, i usually think of the process analyze the lesson in my mind. The way i learn is to think about it and try to remember it so i can regain the knowledge i need in different circumstances. My experience on empiricism is every time i play the guitar, i gain knowledge through consistent practice; everyday. Practicing the guitar everyday will take my guitar skills to a new level. For example, practicing to play songs by ear is essential to musicians, and can be achieved to consistent practice. Practice makes perfect. :D
My experience about rationalism and Empiricism when I was a high school student. Our T.L.E Coordinator ask me if I want to join in STEP Festival, in logo making contest using Adobe Photoshop. I agreed because I want to experience that kind of contest and besides I know how to use Photoshop. In school, during my vacant hours, I used to go in computer laboratory for practice. I know how to edit pictures in Adobe but there are things that I don't know what to do. My mother ask my uncle to teach me so that I know what I can do other. By my own experience and by the help of others I can do better.
My experience that’ll best portray the theory of rationalism and empiricism is my PE class when I was in high school (Rationalism) and my PE class now in college (Empiricism). My secondary school does not pay much attention in sports so it’s just like we’re studying physical education because it is required in the curriculum. For example, our lesson is about Badminton and of course its main goal is for us to learn how to do it, our teacher would just read to us the game rules and the mechanics of the game. We would learn everything about it, theoretically. But if you send us to the actual game, we won’t be able to do it properly because we’re knowledgeable but not skillful about it; which is the exact opposite of what I’ve been through my PE class in college, pertaining to my experience of playing table tennis. I do not know a single thing on how to do it. But our teacher, instead of emphasizing every single detail that’s written in the handout, he let us try it on our own and learn from it hands-on. And actually, I learned to play it well; without memorizing the rules and mechanics. Investigating the experience, both are essential. It’s like having an idea or hypothesis and proving it through experiment. Trying something would be difficult of you don’t know anything about what you plan to do. Also, knowing something would be pointless if you haven’t experienced it once. They’re like slippers, THEY COME IN PAIRS.
My personal experience of rationalism is when I am in high school. This is when my teacher on computer lab go on teaching and I do not pay attention on it. But I need to learn on how to do some codes in running a program. I copy all the notes written n the white board and I read it. But when the time ask us to do a codes I have some of error because I'm only Knowledgeable but not skillful.
EMPIRICISM
My personal experience of Empiricism is when my P.E on college. This when my professor in my P.E did not teach any mechanics and rules in playing taekwondo. But according to my experience I play taekwondo since I was in high school. In that experience I deliver it without knowing some mechanics and rules in our professor.
My experience about rationalism and empiricism is when I was grade 3, it was my first experience to play basketball. My parents sent me to a basketball clinic at adidas camp in fort bonifacio because my mom has a friend working in pba. I am a big fan of the sport basketball especially when I am watching my idols playing in pba, but when I was already at the camp I was surprised when I saw couple of tall guys, I was shocked when I recognized them, they were pba players, i don’t know that adidas camp was also their training center. Before we start the training camp, I really don’t know how to play basketball, even dribble and shoot the ball. The first session of the training, I didn’t participate well and I didn’t learn anything from the first day because I was very shy and I’m afraid to see others that I’m not good at playing basketball and after the training I’m telling to myself that I think I show a bad impression to the mentors and to the others. I told to myself “how would I learn I will not participate well in the training”, so, the next day of training, I listen very carefully to the mentors while they’re coaching us and I make my basketball idols as my inspiration who were watching us while we were playing . So, my experience there will never be forgotten because I didn’t just learn the basics of basketball but through experience I discover new things and learn a lot.
One can gain knowledge through rationalism and empiricism. My experience about rationalism is when i was in high school. My teacher in computer was discussing about how to create a website, that time,i wasn't listening because i fell asleep for boredom. And when i woke up, she says that there will be an hands-on activity about the topic she discuss. I feel nervous that i might fail the activity. I borrow some notes on my classmates so that i can study about creating a website. And when the day come, i feel confident that i can pass it. After the activity, i can't believe that i pass. :D
And my experience about empiricism is when i was 2nd year in PE class in high school, and my teacher was discussing about sepak takraw. I feel excited that i might play the sports i haven't play since in elementary. She discuss some brief information about sepak takraw. And when we were in the middle of discussion, one of my classmates ask that if we can play sepak takraw. The teacher replied that we can play it because she planned that we can have some match and it is better to know the game through experience than memorizing what she said. I learned to play it easily.
My experience with rationalism is whenever I'm going to a location I've never went before and I'm unfamiliar with how to go there. In order for me to solve this problem I usually search for familiar landmarks and key roads that I know and from there I have no problem with going to a certain place. In a way I deduce ways like drawing familiar information in order for me to gain new knowledge. With empiricism, my experience with it is when I went to college for the first time and I didn't knew how things worked. But as time passed by and through my careful observations I gained experience and in turn gave me knowledge in fitting in with my new environment and gaining information.
There are some instances in my life wherein I relied to much in the books that I thought will help me improve my self, help me solve problems and help me succeed in life. I’ve already read many books but none of them helped me when I’m in the hard situation. I remember the time when I’m so eager to acquire knowledge about how to survive in the battles that comes in my life. I want to know what to do in times of doubts and confusion. In the books that I’ve read, many advices, tips and words of wisdom was given. There are so many things to remember, there are so many things to do. When I’m already in the situation wherein real life problems came my way, I don’t know what to do. It seems like all the knowledge that I learned made no sense at all. I survived that difficulty without the use of books. I just solved them by means of my personal experience. In the end, I’ve realized that, we should depend on ourselves rather than informational books that we read.
Last last month, we encountered problem (and it is still a problem today) in our road or way outside of our subdivision, it is the road that will lead us to the place called 'Pangarap' where we can ride the bus, jeep, or FX. And the problem is that the road was closed by someone, (no car, truck, van, tricycle, etc. are not allowed to pass except for the people itself). So, the tendency is we need to take the longer route for us to reach Pangarap. There are 2 ways to reach it, first is we can ride a tricycle with P50 of fare having the longer route as our way in 13 minutes, and the 2nd is to walk from home no fare at all, having the closed road as our way but will take 25-30 minutes (depending how fast you walk). Because of "panghihinayang", I think that it would be better to walk than to spend a fare in a tricycle same as my fare going to Morayta from Bulacan. But when I'm starting to think how tiring it would be, and how much time will be wasted in walking, I don't know if I'll continue to walk. But when I tried to walk from home to Pangarap, it's not that hard. And without even noticing, 25 minutes has already passed (reaching Pangarap) and I still feel okay. XD
My own experience of empiricism is when I am grade 5. When I was grade 5 i doesnt know anything about commuting, like riding in a jeepney, fx or any public utility vehicles. And one time my mom told me that he'll give me a letter that I will present to the guard so I can go out of the school and commute in going home, but I was so scared I doesnt know what will I do or what will I say to the driver because its my first time to commute alone, when I am inside the jeepney I gave my fare and told him where I was going and my heart is beating. After that I got in our house and it was such a relief, And with that experience the next time that I tried it I am confident now and acquired knowledge about it.And my rationalism experience was in computer programming my professor discussed many codes on how to create a program, I understand the lesson and very confident that I can do it and create a program but when I got home I tried it and I failed many times in doing just 2 programming codes, and I realized that even though I can reason and know what to do it is really hard if you didnt even experienced how to do it in actual.
There are things that are best learned with the help of reading books or listening to what your professors teach you but there are also things that we can only master if we experience it first hand. During my driving lessons a year ago, after the enrollment, I went through a lot of seminars and lecturing before any hands-on experience. After hours of thorough lecturing, I thought I was ready to drive. But when I sat on the driver seat, it seems like I haven't learned anything from the lectures, everything was different. But when I started driving with the help of my instructor, everything was a piece of cake. Another instant was when I was playing 2k12, I played for hours and hours trying to master the game and learn a few moves. I thought I was good so I played against my cousin with bragging rights on the line. Unfortunately I lost and had to treat him for a meal. I wanted revenge, sweet revenge, so i researched tips and hints about the game, memorizing every button to press and boom! We battled again and up to now he cannot beat me again thanks to online manuals. This just shows the difference between Empiricism and Rationalism.
For me, knowledge does not only come from purely reasoning or logical and rational deduction, but it also comes from experience.
Throughout my life as a student, I gained my academic knowledge from basically learning lessons in each subject and applying them through having activities. It becomes more complicated as I reach a higher level of education. Nevertheless, the knowledge I gained was the product of reason and experience.
Personally, I’m more of a man of reason than a man of experience. I tend to depend on my logical thinking a lot, compared to my experience. However, I do not prefer it that way. For me, knowledge is still both empirical and rational.
I grew up in a family that takes pleasure in nature trips. So every summer or any holiday, we would go mountain climbing, trekking and swimming in all sorts of bodies of water. A few years back when we were at Casaroro falls in Negros Oriental, I noticed that a group of local kids were cliff diving. The biggest kid was about to jump. He positioned himself on the edge of the cliff, pushed his feet off the ground so high and did a back flip. Unbelievable. I told myself that if I was in that kid’s position, just standing on the edge of the cliff will make me faint and fall a hundred meters down, hit my head at a rock and drown. I would never put myself on that kind of position, because I thought it was extremely dangerous. Last April, during the summer holidays, my friends and I went to Tukuran Falls at San Teodoro Mindoro. The same as last time, there were kids jumping and doing back flips off a cliff. It wasn’t as high as before but it was still a little risky for me. And just my luck, my friends decided to try it. I didn’t bother joining them at first, but it looked like they had so much and I just have to try it for myself too. I decided to put my fears aside and have as much fun as my friends were having. Finally, I positioned myself on the edge off the cliff, pushed my feet off the ground so high and jumped! I may not have done a back flip but as I landed on the water, I felt a sense of accomplishment. I did not faint and fell a couple of meters down, hit my head at a rock and drowned, I was perfectly fine and I actually did have fun. That was one heck of an experience that I would never forget.
My own experience of empiricism is when my mother need a driver to go to our farm , i told to my mom that i can drive for her and she told me that i cant because i don't have experience in driving a car. I said to my mom that trust me i know how to drive and my mother said that okay drive for me. When i started driving my mother always saying that drive slowly until we arrived in our farm.My rationalism experience is when i graduated high school and I think that engineering courses was easy, because most of the subjects are mathematics. That was my favorite subject, BEFORE. So, i took mechanical engineering in Batangas, because of being lazy im not attending some class and my reason is that i know that i can pass the exam because i'm good in math when i am in high school. When the day of exam come i review some of my notes early in the morning. When our teacher gave my test paper i realized that i should attend our class always because math in high school is very different in college.
Knowledge can be achieve through reading books or academics and through experiences. My experience of rationalism is when learning about math subjects. You need to learn and analyze different formula to solve a problem. Memorization is very important so you can easily know the different topics in a math subject. My experience of empiricism is when me and my friends went to an amusement park. And there was a ride Space Shuttle. None of us ever experience this ride so we were so curious how is it. We thought it will be scary but when we tried on it, it was not that scary. So every time when one of our friends want to ride that, we are telling them that it is not that scary.
My experience of rationalism when i was studying in mapua institute of technology for me i think i can finish my studies in that institution but with my lack of effort, lack of perseverance in my study i didn't finish my study so i transfer to Feu and this i will put more effort in my studies. In my experience of empiricism, my cousin told me that playing computer games make my grades low i didnt believe him i play computer everyday and in with that my grades went low and conclude that spending too much time in computer games makes my grade low my cousin is right through his experience.
ReplyDeleteUntil I began to read the tabs of two pieces he played.

ReplyDeleteWhen i was 4th yr HS. i took up entrance exams on different schools. i passed some of them i failed some.

In the next meeting I felt excitement because
they will start to teach us about the basics in first aid such as giving first aid to the different wounds, giving CPR, bandaging and transferring of the victims.

There was this thing called “rubiks cube” that a lot of students in our school uses as past time.

I agreed because I want to experience that kind of contest and besides I know how to use Photoshop. In school, during my vacant hours, I used to go in computer laboratory for practice. I know how to edit pictures in Adobe but there are things that I don't know what to do.

RATIONALISM

XD

ReplyDeleteMy own experience of empiricism is when I am grade 5.

ReplyDeleteMy experience of rationalism when i was studying in mapua institute of technology for me i think i can finish my studies in that institution but with my lack of effort, lack of perseverance in my study i didn't finish my study so i transfer to Feu and this i will put more effort in my studies. In my experience of empiricism, my cousin told me that playing computer games make my grades low i didnt believe him i play computer everyday and in with that my grades went low and conclude that spending too much time in computer games makes my grade low my cousin is right through his experience.
